Fund profile
The Kathrein Mandatum 50 is an international mixed umbrella fund with a risk profile that is 50% equity and 50% bonds. A part of the share and bond quota is covered by alternative investments such as private equity or hedge funds. The management approach of Kathrein Privatbank is based on quantitative models. The equity fund range is supplemented by Russell MSMM funds. The objective is to compile a widespread diversified portfolio of individual securities, investment categories, regions and management approaches in order to achieve additional income in comparison with a classical 50 – 50 portfolio.

Portfolio manager comments as of May 2013
Global stock markets 50 % EUR-hedged and 50 % unhedged continued to rally in May rising 3.83 %. Emerging stock markets continued to underperform developed markets, but the fund has had no direct emerging market stock exposure since February. Global government bond experienced their worst month since 2004 with German Bunds declining by 1.60 % and all Euro-zone government bonds by -1.06 %. Our main theme that stocks will outperform the safest bonds in 2013 was confirmed once more. Equities are overweighted through the Kathrein Dynamic Asset Allocation fund, which held between 70-100 % in equity and REIT ETFs in the month. All bond funds declined, but several less than German government bonds—declining the least were Kathrein Yield+, Kathrein Corporate Bond and Kathrein Euro Inflation Linked Bond. The Kathrein European Equity rose more than the broader European market for the second consecutive month. The tactical investment Kathrein Max Return, SGAM Private Value and Kathrein Dynamic Asset Allocation fund contributed negatively to the performance of the fund. The fund’s currency exposure stemming from the equity exposure is 50 % hedged with respect to the exposure of USD, JPY, and GBP.

    45 % of the volume is placed in equity and bond funds and 10% in alternative investments. While not yielding the earnings of a pure equity shares portfolio, this balanced risk profile however is characterized by considerably less fluctuation swings. After five years, the loss risk of this investment drops to a minimum.
